Agios Georgios sits at the southern tip of the long Perivolos–Perissa black-sand beach. It is quieter than central Perivolos, with the same sea, the same water and excellent food right on the sand.
Where Agios Georgios Is
Agios Georgios beach sits at the southern section of the continuous black-sand coast on Santorini's south coast, on the same strip as Perivolos and Perissa. In practice you walk along the same shoreline — no separate taxi needed if you are already in Perivolos. aegean Safran is located in this section at Agios Georgios 847 03.
How It Differs from Perivolos and Perissa
Central Perivolos concentrates more sunbeds, beach bars and activity. Perissa, further north, is wider and busier with tourists. Agios Georgios at the southern tip tends to be quieter — less crowding, a more relaxed atmosphere, ideal if you want swimming and dinner without the intensity of the centre. The sand remains volcanic black throughout.
A Beach Day: Swimming and Food
Start with swimming and sunbeds, lunch with fava (11€) or fried calamari (17€), and evening dinner with grilled octopus (25€) or fish fillet (35€). The advantage is you do not need to move: aegean Safran operates as beach bar and restaurant all day, around 10:00–22:30.
How to Get There
By car or ATV from Fira or the airport, head towards Perivolos and continue south along the beach. By bus, the Fira–Perissa/Perivolos line stops in the area — see the transport guide for details. Many visitors walk from central Perivolos in 10–15 minutes.
What to Bring
Sunscreen, hat, water and shoes for hot black sand — the sand heats quickly at midday. For dinner, a light shirt or dress is enough; no formal dress required. For sunbeds, you can book through the beach bar or ask on arrival.
Why Stay in Agios Georgios
If you want black sand and sea without the busiest spot, Agios Georgios is the right choice. The Siosios family has run aegean Safran here for 30+ years — they know the area and serve a full Mediterranean menu by the waves.
