Sunrise. Perivolos Beach faces east, toward the open Aegean, not toward the caldera. In the morning the sun comes up over the water. In the evening you have the sea in front of you and a sky going dark, not the Oia show. aegean Safran opens at 10:00, so sunrise belongs to the public beach, not to a breakfast we publish.
Which way the beach actually faces
Perivolos sits on the southeastern coast of Santorini, between Perissa and Agios Georgios. The sand is black and volcanic, and the water in front of you is the open Aegean. This side of the island is not the caldera side. Fira and Oia look at the volcano. Perivolos looks the other way.
That is not a photo caption. It changes what you should expect from a day on the sand. If you came for the sun over the water, the right hour is morning. If you came for the red disk behind the blue church domes, that picture does not happen here. We already say this in the romantic dinner article. This page says it in full, because a lot of people search “Perivolos sunset” and expect Oia.
The address is simple. Perivolos, Santorini 847 03. aegean Safran sits on the sand. The tables face the sea. They face the same water you swim in at the start of the day. They do not turn toward the caldera because the sun has gone down.
What sunrise is like on this beach
In the morning the light comes from the water. Black sand lights up early and holds heat faster than pale sand. The beach guides already say this: at midday the surface burns, wear shoes. Morning is kinder. If you want quieter water and fewer people, the start of the day is the natural window on this coast.
We do not publish an exact sunrise minute. It changes by month. In June the sun is over the water long before we open. In October the morning comes later. If you want to stand on the sand at the moment the sun appears, look up the sunrise for your date and come to the beach. The beach is public. The restaurant is not open then.
aegean Safran opens at 10:00. From that hour you can sit at a table with the sea in front of you, order from the menu, and stay at the beach bar. That is morning light at the table, not a six o’clock sunrise service. Do not book a table for sunrise. Book a table for when we are open.
In July and August the closest parking fills first. If you come early for the sand and then sit down at 10:00, the parking page says the same thing: the nearest row fills, the coast is long, keep driving. Morning is also the easiest time to find a space near the restaurant.
What sunset is not here
The Santorini sunset on the postcards is Oia and Fira. The sun drops over the caldera, with the volcano in the middle. Perivolos faces east. The sun sets behind the island, not over the water in front of the tables. Do not wait for that same disk on the beach horizon.
That does not make the evening empty. After the sun goes down you still have the sea, a darkening sky, candles on the table, and food until 22:30. The best restaurant article already says the setting is atmospheric after sunset. Atmospheric is not the caldera. It is dark water and a quiet table on the sand.
If someone promised you “sunset dinner in Perivolos” and meant Oia, fix the plan before you book. If they meant dinner by the water when the light drops, that is what this beach does. A romantic dinner on this sand works because the sea is in front of you, not because the sun sits inside the caldera.
Do not mix the two promises in one sentence to the person you came with. “We will watch the Oia sunset from Perivolos” is wrong. “We will eat on the sand with the sea in front of us, and the caldera sunset is a different stop” is right.
Morning and evening at aegean Safran
The hours are fixed. Every day from 10:00 to 22:30. At lunch you get the morning light that is already up over the Aegean, a swim, and a full menu. At dinner you get the same table on the sand when the beach slows down. The two hours do not change the orientation. They change the pace.
For lunch, fava, tomato fritters, calamari, or grilled octopus do the job, the same plates we list in the cruise ship lunch article. For dinner the same menu holds a slower table, Assyrtiko, and more time on the sand. Book on +30 22860 81102 or +30 694 426 3898, especially in July and August.
If you came only for the sun over the water, stay on the beach in the morning and sit down when we open. If you came only for dinner, do not expect the caldera, and do not treat a sea view after dark as a failure. That is the correct landscape of this coast.
Buses thin out after sunset. If you stay for dinner, the transport guide says taxi or car for the return. The parking page says the same if you already have wheels. The light does not change that part. Only the last bus does.
If the caldera sunset is the only goal
Then this beach is the wrong stop for that hour. Go to Oia or Fira for the sun over the volcano. Leave Perivolos for swimming, lunch, or dinner at another time. Do not punish the sand for not being the caldera. It is a different job.
You can want both in one day. That is not the same as a short cruise call. From Fira to Perivolos the drive is about 20 to 25 minutes. Oia sits farther than Fira, on the other end. We do not publish minutes from Oia to Perivolos. Count the transfer, July traffic, and book a later table. The restaurant serves until 22:30. A 21:00 table after a caldera sunset is realistic only if you leave when you should, not if you stay for a second photograph.
If you are choosing the month, the best time to visit article covers May through October. The orientation does not change with the season. What changes is how early sunrise is, and how full the sand gets. In July and August the morning is worth more, because midday crowds the beach and the parking.
For a single day in the south, stay here. Swim in the morning, sit down when we open, keep the sea in the afternoon, eat when the light drops. Do not add Oia to the same tight evening unless you have real margin. The cruise article says that for lunch. It holds for dinner too, only with more clock if you leave the caldera on time.

Do I see the caldera sunset from Perivolos?
No. Perivolos faces east. In the evening you get the sea and a dark sky, not the sun over the Oia caldera.
Do I see sunrise from the beach?
Yes. The sun comes up over the Aegean. The exact minute changes by month. Look up sunrise for your date. The restaurant is not open then.
Can I eat sunrise at aegean Safran?
